Coolant Environmental Aspects
Virgin glycol based coolants should be treated effectively in conventional wastewater treatment plants and should not persist in the environment. See our current Material Safety Data Sheet for ecotoxicity and biodegradability information.
Spent engine coolant may contain toxic species as a result of coolant and engine system interaction over the lifespan of the fluid. For this reason, spent coolant should be discarded in accordance with local, state or federal requirements. Many jurisdictions have household or special waste diversion programs in place to handle used engine coolant. End users should check with their regional government regarding recycling and recovery program procedures in their area.
